The City of Chicago goes further than Illinois state law — and every employer with even one employee in Chicago must meet the city's expanded requirements. This course is built to fulfill all of them in one place, delivering the complete training Chicago mandates under the Chicago Human Rights Ordinance (Municipal Code § 6-10-040): sexual harassment prevention training and bystander intervention training. Take this course, and your Chicago employees are fully trained — for both city and state requirements. The additional supplemental requirement for Chicago restaurants and bars may be met by adding our Restaurant & Bar Supplemental.

You'll cover what sexual harassment is under Chicago, Illinois, and federal law, the conduct the law prohibits, reporting and complaint procedures, and the consequences of harassment and retaliation. Because Chicago's training meets and exceeds the Illinois state standard, this single course satisfies both your City of Chicago and Illinois state obligations.

The centerpiece is bystander intervention — Chicago's distinctive requirement. You'll learn how to recognize situations of potential sexual harassment, understand the dynamics that allow it to happen, overcome the barriers that keep people from stepping in, identify safe and effective ways to intervene, and take action. It's the skill that turns coworkers from passive witnesses into a workplace that protects its own.

The course also addresses the heightened duties the ordinance places on supervisors and managers, who carry additional training requirements and a greater responsibility to prevent and address harassment.

This course is taught by an instructor who is a Certified Mediator with a law degree, delivering the content Chicago mandates in a clear, respectful, and genuinely useful way, allowing all participants to feel welcome and comfortable.
